As one of the largest economic sectors, the construction industry seeks graduates with distinctive skills, knowledge and practical experience across a variety of fields. The Master of Construction Practice (Professional) at Bond equips graduates with the necessary knowledge in management and skills to deliver complex construction projects. Graduates will gain a professionally recognised qualification and in turn, enhance their career potential in the field of construction practice.

Intensive mode delivery

The Master of Construction Practice (Professional) is professionally recognised by some of Australia’s leading professional bodies. This allows graduates to differentiate themselves within the industry.

Further, the program is also delivered in intensive mode. Intensive Mode Delivery is a compact and time efficient way to complete a postgraduate qualification with minimal impact on professional and personal lifestyles. Each subject is delivered over two weekends during the semester. There are two sets of three-day sessions per subject, scheduled generally Thursday to Saturday (approximately six to eight contact hours per day) with a break of four or five weeks between session one and session two of each subject.

Participants will receive 40 hours of combined lectures, discussion groups, case studies and workshops during contact hours. International students are required to be on campus every week.

The Master of Construction Practice (Professional) covers a comprehensive range of subjects in the field of construction practice, focusing on the management and delivery of complex construction projects. The curriculum addresses a range of topics including building plans and processes, building structures and soil mechanics, construction techniques, contract administration, finance and cost planning, project management, refurbishment and retrofitting, and risks. It also contains a strong sustainability theme which equips graduates with distinctive skills that are highly sought after in the built environment.

Professional Portfolio is a 20 week, 45 credit point subject available to Master of Construction Practice (Professional) students in the Faculty of Society & Design. This subject uses situated learning and encourages students to develop their professional skills in a real world environment. The subject ensures that students combine self-analysis and reflective learning skills with professional methodologies, so as to expand analytic and strategic thinking capabilities. It provides practical experience for students to develop their skills in a profession relevant to their Masters specialisation.

Students will undertake either a Work Placement in Australia (210 hours) OR a Professional Program (210 hours). The Professional Program offers students a mix of classroom learning and practical experiences and incorporates, skills sessions, guest industry visits, projects and practical assessment pieces replicating a placement. This degree will provide you with access to a wide range of career pathways in the construction industry. Opportunities include building and construction management, contract administration, site management, facilities management, building services, quantity surveying, property development, project management, cost management and general management. The skill sets obtained in this degree may also be applied to related sectors such as civil engineering and mining. Graduates will be equipped with a comprehensive knowledge of sustainable development, and will be able to seek work anywhere in Australia or around the world.

Professional recognition

Graduates of this degree are internationally recognised by the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (RICS) as well as the Chartered Institute of Building (CIOB). They are also nationally accredited with the Australian Institute of Quantity Surveyors (AIQS), and meets the educational requirement set by the Queensland Building and Construction Commission (QBCC) for the granting of an Open Builders Licence.

The structure of the Master of Construction Practice (Professional) is based on both theoretical and practical subjects. This program is designed in close consultation with prominent industry professional boards to ensure the integrity and contemporary relevance of the degree.

Master of Construction Practice (Professional) comprises 13 subjects, as follows:

The below fees are based on an average per semester cost, fees may vary based on which subjects are selected and the number of subjects enrolled in for each semester:

  • 2018 fees: $12,294 per semester (based on 3 subjects per semester)
  • 2019 fees: $12,742 per semester (based on 3 subjects per semester)

Price may vary depending on elective discipline choice.

Academic entry requirements

Completion of an Australian Bachelor degree or equivalent from an approved institution OR qualifications AND/OR relevant professional experience deemed equivalent by the Dean.

Pathways into this program are available via the Graduate Certificate in Construction Practice and Graduate Diploma in Construction Practice.

Credit for prior study

Subject credits may be awarded for previous studies.
