Professional biography

Dr Rajat Roy obtained his PhD in marketing from Nanyang Business School in Singapore. Rajat has published in leading academic journals (ABDC ranked A* and A) like European Journal of Marketing, Journal of Business Research, Journal of Advertising and Journal of Consumer Psychology. He has presented at leading global conferences and served as a session chair for Association for Consumer Research. Rajat has been invited as a speaker to reputed universities like The University of Sydney, University of Western Australia and Chiba University of Commerce. Currently, he sits on the editorial board of the Journal of Business Research. Rajat has taught a wide range of marketing units both in Australia and at overseas locations across different countries like Singapore, Hong Kong, Malaysia, and Mauritius. He has teaching experience at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels. He also has prior experience with running blended learning and fully online courses. He is experienced with research grants, and student supervision for research projects, at the undergraduate and post graduate level. He also led peer review of teaching and served as Deputy Chair for Strategic Review Board of a major Australian University. Rajat’s expert commentary about various marketing topics has appeared in newspapers like Sydney Morning Herald, The Saturday Age Melbourne and websites like news.com.au. He also appeared on Channel 7 news.

Research interests

Dr. Rajat Roy is an Associate Professor of Marketing at Bond Business School, Australia, and a leading consumer behaviour scientist. His research broadly explores consumer decision-making and is increasingly focused on human-centred computing interactions—particularly the use of chatbots and AI in business and marketing, chatbot anthropomorphism, consumer experience design, and the metaverse.

Dr. Roy has published extensively in top-tier marketing journals (FT50, ABDC A*/A), including the Journal of Consumer Psychology, Journal of Business Ethics, European Journal of Marketing, Journal of Business Research, Journal of Advertising, Journal of Services Marketing, and Psychology & Marketing, among others.

He has served as a session chair at international and Australian marketing conferences and has delivered invited talks at renowned universities across Australia, the UK, Japan, Singapore, and India. He actively contributes to the academic community in editorial roles such as Senior Associate Editor, Associate Editor, Guest Editor, and editorial board member for several prestigious marketing journals. Additionally, he reviews for the Australian Research Council and the Research Grants Council of Hong Kong.

Dr. Roy's work has earned numerous accolades, including Outstanding Reviewer and Best Paper awards, and his research has been recognized by the AACSB. He was named among the top 60 advertising researchers globally. He has secured both industry and government research funding and is deeply involved in mentoring early-career and senior researchers, often leading global training sessions on experimental design for faculty and students. He has successfully supervised numerous HDR students.

With extensive teaching experience across Australia and Asia, Dr. Roy has taught a variety of marketing subjects. His leadership in education is reflected in his role as a lead educator, managing teaching teams to deliver high student satisfaction. He also brings expertise in curriculum design and pedagogy, particularly the integration of AI in education, and has received several teaching awards throughout his career.

At Bond Business School, he has led the GAP research pillar and previously held roles such as Deputy Chair of the Strategic Review Board and Peer Review of Teaching Coach. Dr. Roy actively engages with the broader community through expert media commentary across newspapers, television, and online platforms, and as a keynote speaker. He has consulted for industry clients including Mercedes-Benz, the United States Studies Centre, and the Koala Research Foundation, and recently contributed to the Australian Federal Government’s consultation paper on research commercialisation.
