Dr Matthew Raj

Matthew is an Assistant Professor in the Faculty of Law, Bond University, where he currently lectures criminal law and procedure. He is the Founder and Director of the Bond Criminal Law Clinic. He is Called to the Bar of England & Wales (The Honourable Society of the Inner Temple). In 2017, he completed Pupillage at 5 King's Bench Walk where, among other things, he assisted Queen's Counsel in criminal trials at the Old Bailey, appeared in the Crown Court and the Magistrates Court, and assisted on appeals. Matthew holds a Bachelor of Laws with Criminology from Kingston University, London, and completed the Bar Professional Training Course at City Law School. He was awarded his PhD from Bond University for which he received a Pro-Vice Chancellor Scholarship. Matthew has completed the Bond University Mediation Course and became registered as a Nationally Accredited Mediator in Australia. He has co-authored several academic publications and his most recent research is concerned with citizen's arrests, as well as wage theft in Australia. In his spare time, he volunteers as a Firefighter with the Queensland Fire and Emergency Service, Rural Fire Service.
