Soheil Abedian meets the first cohort of Bachelor of Architectural Studies Students

The Institute of Sustainable Development and Architecture’s first cohort of the Architectural Studies students met with Soheil and Anne Abedian on Monday, February 14, 2011, taking the opportunity to showcase their first design project.

Each student from the Soheil Abedian School of Architecture displayed their original chair design assembled from a button up long sleeve shirt, which required students to extend their comfort zone of creativity to complete this challenging project.

Mr Abedian addressed the students and shared that the secret to success is through believing in oneself and forging ahead against the odds.

“Failure plays an imminent role in our learning and provides us with the lessons to strive to be our best. This is the beginning of your future as an architect and I encourage you to continue to explore all possibilities regardless of the setbacks you may encounter along the way,” said Mr Abedian.

“I am delighted to play a role in establishing the Soheil Abedian School of Architecture with Bond University, which I believe in time, will be the contributor of new designers that will influence the art of architecture, not just in Australia but throughout the world,” he said.

Head of School for the Soheil Abedian School of Architecture, Professor Philip Follent shared that each student was chosen because of their passion for ideas and their demonstrated application to a chosen endeavour.

“The diversity of students’ interests has added to the enthusiasm and exposure to new ideas. I congratulate the students on their outstanding efforts with this first project, which has produced some highly imaginative results,” said Professor Follent.

The Bachelor of Architectural Studies is a two year full-time course. Students can then complete the Master of Architecture, which commences in 2013.
