Bull Sharks on the road

Consistency is the key this week as our QFA and QAFLW squads hit the road.

In the QFA, we take on our closet neighbours the Robina Roos. Last week might have seen the Bull Sharks completely destroy a battling a Beenleigh outfit, but there can be hidden dangers in a 242-point win - namely complacency. The Bull Sharks have to forget what has transpired and retain a steely focus on their game plan.

In the QAFLW, our women head up to the Sunny Coast for a must win clash against a struggling Maroochydore side. Coach Andy Lovell says he will need all 21 players to be major contributors again this week to keep their brand of Bull Sharks footy alive.

Bull Sharks huddle v Robina
Bull Sharks against Robina in Round 4

Last time we met

Rd 4, 2025 at The Canal

Bull Sharks won 15.11 (101) - 5.10 (40)

The opposition

Robina are a tricky proposition on their home deck this week. They are a team that have been up and down all season and probably haven’t lived up to the pre-season hype that surrounded them. That being said their ground is an awkward shape and size, and troubles away teams.

The challenge

It's always a big challenge at Robina given the size of the ground and the way the opposition play. After a win like we had on the weekend there can be some complacency which I’m sure the senior leaders and coaching group will ensure doesn’t creep in.

Shuffling the magnets

There may be up to three changes to come back into the side this week including Ned Betts and Flynn Ayton. It will be a tricky selection for coach Kain Ford given the performance of all players on the weekend.

Ones to watch

We are interested to see the continued development of some of our young charges. Sam Bowen, Hunter Booth, and Jed Kowald have shown continued development all season.

The focus

The focus this week is to continue to stay steely focused on our game-style and bank another big win.

The final word

The Roo’s will be a challenge for both teams this week, our aim is to consolidate our position firmly on top of the ladder and to run into the finals full of confidence with a healthy list.

QAFLW

Bull Sharks v Maroochydore at The Canal

Last time we met

Rd 11, 2025

Bull Sharks won 12.13 (85) - 1.2 (8)

The opposition

Maroochydore have had a challenging year, they’ve lost a lot of key players. The last time we played them at The Canal they were really competitive and made the contest tough for us especially in the first half. We expect them to bring a whole lot more tackle contest and pressure, so we have to be on our game.

The challenge

Jemma Blair

The challenge is to back up last week’s performance and effort, given that we’re going to be on the road, a long way from home. Our destiny is still in our own hands, so it’s important that we play strongly and that we get 21 contributors like we did last week.

Shuffling the magnets

Our reserves continue to play a really good brand of footy. Riley Pert, Sienna Merry, Sarah Hepinstall, Georgia Hamilton, Nakita Irvine all pushing for selection. We will potentially regain Chloe Smith from concussion, but we will make those decisions closer to the game.

Ones to watch

Matilda Clarkson in her second game did a fine job as a small defender. Skye White, Jemma Blair, Grace Moodie, Lexi Samuels and Tobi Chapman were all outstanding.

The focus

Stoppages and clearances. We have to have a strong focus on our centre bounce work and just to improve the quality of our forward 50 entries.

Final word

It’s a critically important game as we’re on the road, and we must build on the momentum that we gained from last week’s effort.
