A winning weekend at The Canal

The weather was bleak, but the football shone brightly.

In wet and muddy conditions, the Bull Sharks put on masterclasses in both the QFA and QAFLW where team efforts and respect for teammates were themes of the day.

The QFA men thumped Beenleigh in a 242-point win and our QAFLW women were back to their winning ways taking down Aspley by 35 points.

QFA

Bull Sharks v Beenleigh at The Canal

Bull Sharks won 37.21 (243) - 0.1 (1)

How it was won

The weekend’s game was one where the scoreboard attendant was the busiest person at the ground with the Bull Sharks piling on the goals from start to finish. At no stage did we lose our focus and play in an unprofessional manner against a club that has had some challenges with personnel.

What made you happy

The way the team played was in line with the way we have played all season. Hard running, team focused footy was the order of the day.

Coach Kain Ford was very happy with the win but even more impressed that the team played the game out in the right manner. We knew it was going to be a game we should dominate which can be a risk to the mentality of the group although this wasn’t the case, and the team went on to win emphatically.

The work to do

The work continues as we approach the business end of the season. With two games to go before finals we need to fine tune all areas of our game, to be 13-1 at this stage of the season is terrific. There isn’t any sense of complacency, we understand what’s in front of us and there is a steely determination to continue our winning ways.

Trademark Players

Matty Smith had an outstanding game kicking 8 majors and dishing off many more. He is a nightmare for opposition clubs to match up on and is only getting better as the season unfolds. It’s hard to find anyone who didn’t contribute on the weekend.

Bull Sharks v Aspley

QAFLW

Bull Sharks v Aspley

Bull Sharks won 7.6 (48) - 2.1 (13)

How it was won

It was an all-round team effort. We had no passengers just 21 really strong contributors which was exceptionally pleasing given the week before.

What made you happy

That we could rebound off a really disappointing performance and get back to playing Bull Sharks DNA footy. We dominated clearance and contest and in particular our forward defensive pressure allowed us to set up really well defensively behind the ball.

Bull Sharks Footy

It was a team orientated effort. The girls were really unselfish and were prepared to share the ball around to someone in a better position all day. The communication from the girls to each other around instruction and direction was the best it’s been all year.

The work to do

We’ve got to remain consistent, and we need to keep working on our ball use going inside forward 50 so we can maximise our entries. We didn’t get quit enough value for effort in terms of how many entries we had.

Trademark Players

Jasmyn Davidson as a tall inside midfielder was outstanding, as was Maisy Evans who fluctuated between ruck and inside mid. Evans’ follow up at ground level was first class. Kendra Blattman got back to some really good marking forward and capped off her game with three quality goals. Shannon Nolan continues her outstanding season, and because of the job which Davidson and Evans did inside with with their contested ball, Nolan was able to be a lot more effective on the outside in space.
