Bond University has opened an upgrade of its Bond Business School, the latest in a flurry of major projects during the university’s 30th anniversary celebrations.
The Business Commons is a modern, comfortable space that accommodates 120 students in a range of self-study areas, collaborative spaces and informal teaching areas.
It also has a staff area to support business students and an office for the Business Students’ Association.
The Business Commons was launched by the Vice Chancellor, Professor Tim Brailsford, Executive Dean of the Bond Business School Professor Terry O’Neill, and the President of the Business Students’ Association Angus Jenkins on December 5.
“In this day and age where you can pretty much do everything through that mobile device in your hand, the biggest demand we have from students is for self-study spaces,” Professor Brailsford said.
“It says something about the community of the university and the quality of our infrastructure that students want to spend time on campus.”
The new facility builds upon recent projects including:
- Extension of the Balnaves Foundation Multimedia Learning Centre;
- Construction of self-study areas on levels 3 and 4 of the John & Alison Kearney Main Library;
- Refurbishment of the Faculty of Law including the Law Library;
- Stage 2 extension of the Health Building.
The final instalment of the strategy will be completed next year when a new building in the Society & Design Precinct will be opened, fulfilling a long-term commitment to students to construct 1000 new study spaces.
The Business Commons completes the vision for the Quadrangle such that on arrival, a student can enter any of the four adjacent buildings directly into high quality study spaces.Â
The construction of a new the Main Entrance on University Drive scheduled for first semester next year.
Originally timed for an opening in early 2020, the Business Commons project has been completed ahead of schedule by ADCO Constructions.
Professor Brailsford thanked ADCO for the outstanding result and acknowledged the excellent work of Bond’s Director of Facilities Management Jared Taylor as the internal project manager.
The Business Commons is open to all students enrolled at Bond.
Other projects completed during the university’s 30th year include a new formal entrance at the intersection of University Drive and Bond University Ring Road and a FINA-ratified 10-lane, 25m short-course swimming pool.
