Bond Launches New Governance Education Initiative
Bond University has launched its Centre for Enterprise Governance as the next stage of its plan to offer better educational opportunities to Australia’s governance community. Delivered via the Faculty of Law, the Centre for Enterprise Governance provides an educational and thought leadership platform for governance professionals, directors, and officers of enterprises to gain a deeper insight into the ethical, legal, and moral foundations supporting excellence in governance.
Co-Director of the new Centre, Mr. Gary Brady, said the initiative has followed from the successful introduction of Australia’s first Master of Laws in Enterprise Governance.
"We have been delighted by the success of our LLM Program, and the establishment of the Centre for Enterprise Governance is a logical next step. It will allow us to engage with a broader cross-section of the governance community, contribute more fully to the governance conversation and to increase our educational offerings beyond degree programs".
"Already we have partnered with industry associations and membership groups to deliver executive education in governance and are now creating microcredential pathways from CPD to degree qualifications. It’s a really exciting time of change in tertiary education and particularly instructional design and delivery", noted Mr. Brady.
Mr. Brady pointed to the substantial evidence that educational gaps still exist for Non-Executive Directors, senior officers and those aspiring to join Boards.
"Unfortunately, read the news on any given day and there will be governance failures featured. Directors need to understand their fiduciary and legal duties much better and conduct themselves under a more structured ethical and moral framework. There is plenty of evidence on display that this is still not happening at the desired consistency".
The Centre for Enterprise Governance has followed a structured governance framework of its own with the appointment of an Advisory Committee of industry practitioners and academic staff. Chair of the Advisory Committee and Co-Director of the Centre, Honorary Adjunct Professor Dr Stephen van der Mye, noted the senior experience and broad skill set of Advisory Committee members and thanked them for their engagement with the Centre.
"Advisory Committee members will bring outstanding credentials and experience to Centre operations. We thank everyone involved for the commitment of their time and look forward to the guidance and sage advice they will undoubtably offer".
The Centre for Enterprise Governance website was officially launched 21 April 2021 and can be accessed at https://bond.edu.au/about-bond/academia/faculty-law/centre-enterprise-governance.
