Insolvency: Small Business Restructuring

Navigate small business restructuring with confidence

Financial distress doesn’t have to mean the end of the road. In Australia, 98% of businesses are small businesses, contributing nearly $600 billion to the economy and employing 42% of the private workforce. Historically, insolvency meant two costly options: liquidation or voluntary administration. The Small Business Restructuring (SBR) framework, introduced in 2021, changed that offering a simplified, cost-effective way for businesses to regain control and recover.

This course is designed for insolvency practitioners, bankruptcy trustees, and advisors who want practical skills to guide small businesses through restructuring. Whether you’re starting out or refreshing your expertise, you’ll learn:

  • The fundamentals of SBR: Why it matters, how it works, and its role in business recovery
  • Eligibility and initiation: Criteria, liabilities, and steps to start the process
  • Roles and responsibilities: From directors to restructuring practitioners, and how ASIC and ATO influence outcomes
  • Creating and implementing a Restructuring Plan: Navigate proposal, acceptance, and plan phases with confidence

With 2.5 million small businesses in Australia, demand for skilled advisors is rising. This course equips you to meet that demand, helping businesses avoid liquidation and preserve jobs.
