An understanding of cultural differences and approaches to managing these differences is increasingly important to effective management in international and multicultural business environments. This subject focuses on the techniques of managing in different cultures, in particular on the interpersonal issues that invariably arise in international and cross-cultural contexts. Major topics include the significance of culture in international management, the meaning and dimensions of culture, comparative international management and leadership styles, managing communication across cultures, ethics and social responsibility in global management, cross-cultural negotiation and decision-making, forming and managing global teams and developing the international and global manager.

A frequent cause of failure is lack of attention to subject or assignment guidelines.|

Policy on late submission and extensions
A late penalty will be applied to all overdue assessment tasks unless an extension is granted by the subject coordinator. The standard penalty will be 10% of marks awarded to that assessment per day late with no assessment to be accepted seven days after the due date. Where a student is granted an extension, the penalty of 10% per day late starts from the new due date.
Policy on plagiarism
University’s Academic Integrity Policy defines plagiarism as the act of misrepresenting as one’s own original work: another’s ideas, interpretations, words, or creative works; and/or one’s own previous ideas, interpretations, words, or creative work without acknowledging that it was used previously (i.e., self-plagiarism). The University considers the act of plagiarising to be a breach of the Student Conduct Code and, therefore, subject to the Discipline Regulations which provide for a range of penalties including the reduction of marks or grades, fines and suspension from the University.
Feedback on assessment
Feedback on assessment will be provided to students within two weeks of the assessment submission due date, as per the Assessment Policy.

Examines theories and frameworks of culture, how culture is conceptualised and the way in which this influences the environment in which organisations operate.
In this topic we consider the organisational environment and how the structure, mission and strategy of the organisation is related to operations in different cultures.
In this topic we examine concepts of communication and how these are influenced when communicating across (and within) cultures.
In this topic we explore concepts of leadership and their relationship to the cross-cultural challenges of leadership. We use case studies to examine leadership scenarios in different cultural contexts.
This topic covers considerations related to coordinating and motivating a global workforce, such as incentives and rewards.
We explore culturally bound persuasion and negotiation tactics.
Types of global teams are examined, along with considerations for selecting appropriate teams for different work contexts, deploying, and managing global teams.
In this topic we examine the cultural theories related to living and working globally, challenges that expatriates face, and management approaches to these issues.
