Keynote presentation by Professor Craig Hassed, Director of Education at the Monash Centre for Consciousness and Contemplative Studies
The Body is the Shadow of the Soul
To the ancients, mind and body were inseparable. Although a materialist approach to science attempted to separate them for much of the 20th Century, the science of mind-body medicine sought to once again unite them. Now, with the emergence of scientific endeavours such as mindfulness, contemplative neuroscience and epigenetics in the 21st Century, consciousness is beginning to take centre stage. This keynote will explore these topics philosophically and scientifically in order to understand the relationship between consciousness, mind and body and to elucidate their therapeutic potential.
