Bachelor Medical Studies
Phase 1 (Years 1-3) Placements:
A range of community placements are scheduled to meet each year’s program requirements while students are in their pre-clinical education of Phase 1. These placements are typically located in Brisbane, South East Queensland, and Northern New South Wales. These are allocated by the faculty at a variety of locations within a commutable distance from Bond University. Due to availability from our placement providers, opportunities may vary semester to semester and may be required to be reschedule over the year due to workforce demands or cancellations that are out of the universities control. Phase 1 placement allocations are published on iLearn approximately 1-2 weeks prior to each semester start date.
Students can meet with the Student Affairs and Service Quality team if there are extenuating circumstances* that the placements team may be able to accommodate prior to allocations of placements or anytime during their degree. Communication can be sent to [email protected] with any supporting documentation to have their application considered.

Doctor of Medicine
Phase 2 (Years 4-5) Placements:
Phase 2 medical students may be placed in public, not for profit and/or private hospital and health service facilities for their clinical placements. These placements are typically located in Brisbane, South East Queensland, Northern New South Wales with some possibilities in rural and overseas locations. Prior to Phase 2 and during Phase 2 students are provided with a survey requesting preferences that may reflect their areas of clinical interest or geographic location in order to help inform some placement allocations. Wherever possible, we accommodate these preferences, however due to limitations regarding availability of clinicians and regulations imposed by hospitals, it is not always possible to fulfil these for all students. Students can meet with the Student Affairs and Service Quality team if there are extenuating circumstances* that the placements team may be able to accommodate prior to allocations of placements or anytime during their degree.
Preference Surveys
Students must email [email protected] by the advised date on the preference survey (posted on iLearn approximately August in year 3) with any supporting documentation to have their application considered (students who applied prior for year 4 must apply again with new supporting documentation).
The survey is sent in year 3 and 4 around August each year once our placement providers have advised their availability. Students will be advised of their placement locations by approximately October when our placement providers confirm the allocations. The allocations will be emailed individually to each student as soon as all considering factors have been confirmed. These placements are subject to change due to availability, supervision and other related factors to ensure a student can progress in their degree.
Details on the types of placements are listed on the website. https://bond.edu.au/program/medical-program-bachelor-of-medical-studies-doctor-of-medicine

Master of Occupational Therapy
Students are required to undertake a diverse range of Practice Education experiences during the Master of Occupational Therapy program. Students may be placed in a public, not for profit and/or private hospital and health service facilities in and around Brisbane metropolitan, Gold Coast, Northern New South Wales area and in other states. Students can indicate preferences for Level I placements through linked coursework subjects, and these placements are facilitated in collaboration with local health, education or social care organisations with some supervision provided by Bond OT academic staff in collaboration with site supervisors from a range of professional disciplines.
Given the range of practice contexts around Australia, there is a strong likelihood that students will be allocated a placement in a regional, rural or other area beyond the Gold Coast region. Students should prepare to attend at least one placement beyond the Gold Coast region throughout the program. For those students with genuine hardship or extenuating circumstances (carer responsibilities for children or parents, medical/health condition requiring close access to specialists) where they may be unable to attend a distant placement, they will need to negotiate with the Academic Coordinator of Clinical Education (Occupational Therapy) prior to or on commencement of the Program, or as early as reasonably practicable.
The OT Placements academic team welcome student requests, though it is not always practical or possible to accommodate all placement requests. We do not allow students to source their own placement. Furthermore, mandatory requirements as set out by WFOT and explained in the Bond Occupational Therapy Student Practice Education Manual must be met which may impact on the choice of placement for a student.
Students can also meet with the Student Affairs and Service Quality team if there are extenuating circumstances* that the placements team may be able to accommodate prior to allocations of placements or anytime during their degree. Communication can be sent to [email protected] with any supporting documentation to have their application considered.
*Extenuating Circumstances may include serious medical/mental health condition, carers responsibilities or other circumstances. Please note, transportation is not considered an extenuating circumstance.
