10 start-ups started by Bondies

A recent report found Bond University to be one of the most entrepreneurial universities in Australia. From breweries to advertising agencies and law firms, Bond Alumni have founded companies in a diverse range of industries. Here are 10 familiar names among the many Bondy businesses that placed us at the top of the University of New South Wales’ 2023 report. 

 

Burleigh Brewing Company

Burleigh Brewing Company was co-founded by a Bondy who knows her beer. Bachelor of Laws graduate Peta Fielding and her husband Brennan founded the craft brewery in 2006. Upon returning from Hawaii and a decade of brewing craft beer in America, the pair decided to open shop in Burleigh. As pioneers of slow brew, all-natural craft beer on the Gold Coast, the company has expanded exponentially and is now equipped to produce 10 million litres of the high-quality beverage annually. We’ll cheers to that!  

 

Automation Anywhere 

Neeti

Graduating with a Bachelor of Commerce and a Master of Business Administration, Neeti Shukla went on to Co-Found Automation Anywhere in 2003. Based in San Jose, California, Automation anywhere is a company for companies. This platform uses artificial intelligence to deliver intelligent solutions that boost productivity, encourage innovation, strengthen customer service, and grow businesses. 

 

LIVIN

Bond Alumnus Samuel Webb co-founded the not-for-profit mental health organisation LIVIN in 2013 to pay homage to a friend who lost their battle with mental health. The aim of the organisation is to educate, motivate, and advocate for positive mental health, as well as break the stigmas around taking about mental health. If the name LIVIN seems somewhat familiar, but you aren’t sure where you came across it, perhaps you have seen their iconic t-shirts and merchandise collection that help raise funds for their initiatives. 

 

Skin Control

Skin Control is a brand that sells affordable skin care to treat acne-pone skin among teens and adults. Co-founded by Bachelor of Business Bond Alumnus Micheal Porter, the company launched in 2018 with their famous pimple patches. Not only have Skin Control products gone viral on social media, but they can also be found at some of Australia’s major retailers, including Coles, Woolworths, Chemist Warehouse, and Priceline. 

 

Bellami Hair

Julius Salerno and Nikki Eslami graduated from Bond in 2004 and 2006 respectively, but together, founded one the world’s largest hair extension brands. With the Italian derived meaning, ‘beautiful me,’ Bellami aims to empower women by supplying them with luscious locks. Apart from hair extension that are made from 100% Human Remy Hair, Bellami also offers a variety of wigs, hair extensions, hot tools, and hair care. 

 

Lawyers on Demand

Lawyers on Demand (LOD) is a company that helps legal professionals around the world practice law flexibly. Bond Graduate and LOD founder John Knox created the business in 2007 which has served multiple noteworthy clients, including Adidas, Google, an Airbnb. Last year, the company was acquired by Consilio who assist multinational organisations manage global contracts and continues to flourish.

 

With Jéan

Bachelor of Communication (Business) graduate Evangeline Titilas and her best friend co-founded the online clothing label With Jéan in 2017. Designing garments for the ever-evolving world of fashion, ethics and sustainability are at the heart of the With Jéan world. Clothing is made by artisan sewers in comfortable environments and are shipped around the world in biodegradable plastic. With Jéan have even had a pop-up store in New York City!

 

Chandelier Creative

Talking about New York City, Chandelier Creative is a New York-based creative studio founded in 2005 by Bondy Richard Christiansen. The full-service agency has designed and produced many world-class campaigns for notable clients, including Nike, Calvin Klein, Hermès, and Target. They even helped create packaging and campaigns for rhode — Hailey Bieber’s skin care company. If you are a modern-day consumer, chances are you can come across their work. 

 

Hoichoi TV

Hoichoi TV is one the biggest Bengali entertainment streaming platforms and boasts a wide variety of movies, television shows, and original web series. From action, to romance, and even horror, the platform created by Bachelor of Commerce graduate Vishnu Mohta introduces new content every week. Since its creation in 2017, the Hoichoi TV now hosts over 13 million users.

 

Global Work & Travel

Jürgen Himmelmann co-founded Global Work & Travel at only 19 years old while completing his studies at Bond University. Since then, the company has profoundly impacted the youth travel scene by simplifying the quest to find temporary work in different countries. Apart from starting a successful business, Jürgen has won the Gold Coast Young Entrepreneur of the Year Award three times! In 2019 and 2020, he also co-founded three more companies: Global Animal Welfare Fund, Global Travel Cover, and the online travel agency DealsAway.com. Take about entrepreneurism!
