Description

Law Internship subject is a postgraduate elective subject offered by the Faculty of Law. This subject is intended to provide students with practical opportunities to recognize and apply theoretical legal knowledge to practical legal problems in the real world via an internship undertaken in a professional legal environment. This will allow students to integrate their theoretical and conceptual knowledge with the legal skills and problem-solving techniques required in the workplace. This subject provides students with the ability to ultimately make an informed transition between their university studies and what is required of them to work as legal professionals.

Learning outcomes

  1. Work collaboratively, ethically, and professionally with legal and other professionals in the workplace.
  2. Use advanced oral and written skills to problem-solve legal issues and challenges that occur in legal practice.
  3. Reflect on and critically analyse the relationship between theoretical law and its practical application to real life legal problems.
  4. Identify and critically evaluate the impact of professional and ethical issues that arise in the workplace .

Assumed knowledge:

Assumed knowledge is the minimum level of knowledge of a subject area that students are assumed to have acquired through previous study. It is the responsibility of students to ensure they meet the assumed knowledge expectations of the subject. Students who do not possess this prior knowledge are strongly recommended against enrolling and do so at their own risk. No concessions will be made for students’ lack of prior knowledge.

Students must be admitted into a Juris Doctor degree and must have completed a minimum 120 Credit Points of LAWS subjects. | Students are expected to self-source and undertake a 90 hour legal placement in a professional legal environment during the semester of enrolment. | Faculty approval is required.

This subject is not available as a general elective. To be eligible for enrolment, the subject must be specified in the students’ program structure.
