EXPH11-109: Assessment, Prescription and Delivery of Exercise 2

Description

This subject advances students’ capability to design, justify, and deliver strength and conditioning programs for both performance and clinical populations. Building on prior study, students apply contemporary periodisation models and integrate resistance training, speed and agility development, and energy system conditioning to meet specified health and performance goals. Through forums, coaching labs, and workshops, students refine technical coaching skills (including Olympic lifting derivatives), develop safe progressions and regressions, and adapt programs for diverse and special populations (e.g., youth, older adults, and clients with chronic health constraints) with a focus on cultural and physical safety. Students use athlete/client monitoring data to manage load, support recovery, and reduce injury risk, and evaluate their service delivery through structured self-reflection and peer review. Assessment includes periodised program design, client education and monitoring resources, and an Australian Strength and Conditioning Association-aligned practical coaching exam.

Subject details

Type: Undergraduate Subject

Study areas:
  • Health, Biomedical, and Sport Sciences

Learning outcomes

  1. Design comprehensive meso-and micro-cycles that integrate resistance, speed, agility, and energy system conditioning for specified health and performance goals.
  2. Execute effective coaching of foundational strength and conditioning movements and activities using stage-appropriate cueing and error detection.
  3. Justify programming decisions using athlete monitoring data to manage load and reduce injury risk in both clinical and athletic populations.
  4. Modify strength and conditioning principles for special populations, including youth athletes and clients with chronic health constraints, to ensure cultural and physical safety.
  5. Appraise service delivery and coaching effectiveness through structured self-reflection and peer review to drive continuous professional improvement.
