Top Australian swim coach, Richard Scarce, has been appointed Head Coach of the Bond Swimming Club, bringing a team of 40 swimmers to train at the club including Olympian, Cameron McEvoy.
As an Australian Swim Team Coach, Scarce has guided swimmers to victory at the 2014 Glasgow Commonwealth Games and the 2014 Pan Pacific Championships, and will be one of the coaches of the Australian team at the upcoming World Championships in Kazan, Russia.
Scarce has been credited as one of the driving forces behind Queensland Swimming's leap in rankings over the past five years, taking his former club Palm Beach Currumbin (PBC) from outside the top 70 to become a team ranked consistently within the top 20 at State level.
Joining Scarce is assistant coach Kyle Samuelson who has over 7 years’ experience as a swim coach. The two will pair up to create an environment of success for Bond’s swimming club.
Scarce is a welcome addition to Bond University's swimming environment which includes champions Melanie Wright (nee Schlanger), Maddie Groves, Jordan Harrison and Alex Graham, who are all part of the Bond Elite Sport Program.
Bond launched its Georgina Hope Rinehart Swimming Excellence Scholarship last year, awarded to Groves and Graham, aimed at providing opportunities and support for high performing swimmers to complete their studies at the university whilst also competing at an elite level in the pool.
Bond University's Director of Sport, Garry Nucifora, said Scarce's appointment was part of Bond's commitment to the ongoing development of elite sport.
"Richard has proved himself to be one of the top swim coaches on the global stage, and we consider his appointment as Head Coach of the Bond Swimming Club to be a major coup for the university," he said.
"His national and international coaching experience will provide opportunities for our promising young swimmers to take their sport to the next level under his guidance.
"We warmly welcome Richard, Cameron, and all new swimmers to the Bond campus, and look forward to working together towards the ongoing development of our swim team."
