The women’s QAFLW season kicked off in style, with a dominant 69-point win over Aspley, and now they hit the road to take on Moreton Bay.

Andy Lovell believes if the team can bring the same structure, contest and defensive press as last week, they’ll be hard to beat again this week.

All the footy action is back for the men in QFA. In the words of Matthew Kennedy, it's been a ‘long, hot summer’ and the men are raring to go as they look to defend their premiership.

They’ll take on the Tweed Tigers down at Tweed. All eyes will be on newest recruit and Riewoldt Scholarship holder, Kane Emery.

QFA – Round One

Bull Sharks v Tweed at Tweed

Bull Sharks

The opposition - Knowing historically what Tweed brings, particularly on their home deck, we know we need to bring our best to beat them. They are a well drilled, highly competitive team, and they really rise at home. It will be a great contest.

The challenge - They always have big home crowds & play well at home. It’s a small club with big spirit so we know what we are up against.

Shuffling the magnets – It will be a massive challenge for Coach Ford with so many options given our numbers. We’ve had a terrific preseason period, and for those chosen in the senior team they will have earnt their spot.

Ones to watch – We're looking forward to watching all our new players that have arrived. One in particular is our Riewoldt Family AFL Excellence Scholarship recipient Kane Emery who looks like a star.

The focus - Bring our best, weather the storm and then run all over them.

Final word – Bring on round one it’s been a long hot summer!!!!

Last round – Bond v Aspley – Bull Sharks won 12.5 (77) - 1.2 (8)

We went in uncertain of how we would perform and gel together, but it was a defensive masterclass.

Round Two

Bull Sharks v Moreton Bay at Moreton Bay

The opposition – Moreton Bay had a big loss on the weekend, so we expect them to rebound strongly. We’re confident that if we structure up the way we did against Aspley and bring our contests and defensive press, and bring our contests and defensive press, that we will perform well.

The challenge - Replicate our structure and effort from last week and perform on the road. We have a night game, away at Moreton Bay that's the challenge.

Shuffling the magnets - New recruit, Skye Emery is out with 21-day concussion protocol. Aside from that we are settled, it’s difficult to change a team after they had such a strong performance last week.

Ones to watch – Our new recruit, Tegan Williams, she kicked four goals last week. Beth Pinchin at fullback was really steady. Evie Reeves was best on the ground in the midfield, as was Jaz Davidson, the combo of Reeves and Davidson with their inside/outside ball was elite.

The focus – Build our connection on offence, move the ball through the corridor and be a little bit more effective with our forward 50 entries.

Final word – An exciting year lies ahead for our new group. We’re connected, hungry and ready to go.
