Netball returns with a grudge match against the Cougars

Charli Pearse
Charli Pearse will be a key player this year

The wait is over for the players and fans of Bull Sharks netball.

The 2025 Hart Premier Netball League starts this weekend with action in the Ruby Series.

The Bull Sharks made the finals last year where their run was ended in the semi finals.

They get a chance for revenge straight up on a road trip to take on the Cougars.

Bull Sharks v Brisbane North Cougars at Nissan Arena

Last time we met

2024 semi final at Nissan Arena

Bull Sharks lost 55-53

It was a thrilling, nail-biting contest. Our girls gave it their all and we came up just short.

The opposition

While their final lineup hasn’t been officially released, we expect to see a mix of returning players and some notable inclusions from other franchises. The Cougars are known for their physicality and tenacity and are led by an experienced coaching team. Our last encounter with them was a classic battle and we hope this time to be able to reverse that result.

The challenge

With a few new additions stepping up from training partner roles, and several of last year’s Ruby players having made the step up to the Sapphire Team, we’ll be focused on building cohesion and refining our combinations across the court.

Shuffling the magnets

We’re embracing change as we test new lineups and rotations. It’s an exciting time as we explore how these fresh connections can elevate our game.

Ones to watch

Harriet Nicholson, our 2024 MVP and co-captain, returns for her 11th season. Her experience, leadership, and on-court presence will be instrumental. Charli Pearse is another. She won the coaches award last year and we expect her to take her game to a new level this season.

The focus

A full-team effort—both in attack and defence—will be key. We’re placing a premium on ball control, smart decision-making, and working as one unit.

Final word

We’re excited for the challenge ahead.
