Most people celebrate their 21st birthday with cake and champagne. Kate Kyros marked hers by dancing into the winner’s circle on a European victory lap.
The world’s top-ranked young dressage rider has returned to competition in Europe in sensational style, delivering a flawless start to her 2025 campaign just days before turning 21.
Kyros, the reigning Bond University Sports Person of the Year for both 2023 and 2024, was unstoppable at the CDI Jerez de la Frontera in Andalusia, Spain — finishing on the podium in all six events and claiming first place in the freestyle with her stallion Intro K thanks to a stunning 71.97% performance.
“It has been three months since Intro and I competed together, so it was great to be back in the arena,” Kyros said.
“The showgrounds were so beautiful, filled with culture and love for horses. I continue to learn so much about international competition and am building on my connection with Intro at every event.
“This was a super way to start our 2025 season.”
Kyros, who is currently studying a double degree in Law and Business at Bond University, is balancing her academic commitments with life as Australia’s first FEI Youth World No.1 — a rare achievement in a sport that demands elite precision, discipline, and time on the world stage.
Following her success in Spain, she continued her winning ways in Portugal, competing at the Alter do ChĂŁo CDI3 and CDI4. There, she claimed first place in the Young Rider Individual event and finished second in the Young Rider Teams test.
It’s an impressive return for the rising star after taking a summer break back home in Australia — and clear proof she remains one of the most exciting young talents in international dressage.
