Junior Wallaby Kingsley Uys and his teammates have made a global statement in their first outing for the year in green and gold.

The Coffs Coast Festival of Rugby provided the perfect opportunity for the Australian Under 20s to connect off-field before combining to dominate Fiji Under 20s 55–21 and following up with a 54–27 masterclass against the Eddie Jones-coached Japan Under 23s.

With game time shared around, Uys had to wait until the Test against Japan to remind selectors why he is one of the most promising young talents in the country.

The 2026 John Eales Rugby Excellence Scholarship recipient says the intensive week of training and playing with the team – which includes fellow Bull Sharks Jonah Rangiwai and Kenny Harris β€“ puts him in good stead ahead of the Under 20 Rugby Championships in South Africa later this month.

β€œI had a great time making connections and learning with the team who are firing and keen to keep improving leading into South Africa,” Uys said.

β€œThe biggest takeaway was the work I did on my scrummaging – I still have a lot to learn but I’m so excited to keep getting better.”

Selectors are next week expected to make an announcement on the outfit chosen to head to South Africa, with Australia opening their campaign against New Zealand on April 27.
