It was a family reunion and a homecoming rolled into one when Olympian Hayden Sargeant led the Bull Sharks to victory at the Byron Bay Rugby 7s last weekend.

The Bond alumnus and Paris Olympian dusted off his old Bull Sharks jersey for the first time since 2023 to add a bit of star power to the lineup.

“It was nice to play for Bond again,” Sargeant said

“I was definitely one of the older heads out there this time, but it felt really good to be out there with some younger lads and give back a few things that I’ve learnt over the years.”

And if one Sargeant brother wasn’t enough, he joined younger brother Beau as the Bull Sharks beat the Tahi Reds 19-10 in the grand final.

“It was the first time we’ve ever gotten to play together outside of throwing the footy together at the park and in the backyard,” Hayden said.

“And we got the win at the tournament so that was a nice way to cap it off.”

The Bull Sharks will compete in the second round of the Caslick Cup and Stannard Shield this weekend at The Canal for the ECP Rugby 7s. Kicking off on Saturday morning the tournament will run across the whole weekend.

The men finished 3rd at the first round of the Stannard Shield held at Wests in Brisbane.

With Beau about to start year 12 at The Southport School, it will only be a matter of time till he will be following in his big brother’s footsteps at Bond.

“He’s thinking of coming to play at Bond, that's the plan,” Hayden said.

“Hopefully he will create his own path.”

Sargeant recently called his time with the Australian 7s team, that finished fourth at the Paris Olympics, and has returned home to the Gold Coast.

“It's nice to be back in some warm weather and catch up with family and friends,” Sargeant said.
