Last week’s QFA win over Burleigh has been hailed as one of the Bull Sharks’ greatest.
But there’s another mountain to climb this weekend.
Carrara, the only team to lower the Bull Sharks’ colours this year awaits – this time at The Canal which has become a fortress in 2025.
In the QAFLW, it is the battle of the students against UQ. The women beat the opposition by 42 points at the start of the season, but coach Andy Lovell warns the Red Lions are hard to beat on their home turf.
Bull Sharks v Carrara
Last time we met
Round 5, 2025 at Carrara
Bull Sharks lost 6.11 (47) - 4.10 (34)
The Bull Sharks weren’t at our best and were beaten in most facets of the game. Carrara play their ground very well this was evident from the outset. We didn’t match their pressure, and we were second to the footy for most of the day.
The opposition
They definitely enjoy a home ground advantage, but they are dangerous away too. They are a quality outfit with game breakers across the ground and we will have to be at our best to beat them.
The challenge
Carrara are very well-balanced with a high-level midfield, solid back six and a forward line the envy of most in the competition. They have a key forward who is the best in the competition and has kicked 20 goals in the last two weeks, so we need to limit his supply as a priority.
Shuffling the magnets
We came out of last week’s game without any injury concerns so there shouldn’t be too many changes made this week.
Ones to watch
Brodie Murdoch is Carrara’s key forward and best player, he is someone we need to keep under control and limit his supply.
The focus
After a solid win we must put a steely focused onto our next proposition which is equally as challenging. We see Carrara as a team that has the ability to beat anyone on any given day, so we need to ensure we are up for that challenge.
Final word
The block we are currently in has been earmarked as the most critical of the season as we play the top four sides. The challenge is to come out the other side winning these games which would provide us with a significant buffer going into the finals series.

QAFLW
Bull Sharks v UQ
Last time we met Round 1, 2025
Bull Sharks won 7.10 (52) - 1.1 (7)
We won this game through contested pressure. We dominated stoppage clearances, and our ball movement was elite with 36 inside 50 entries to UQ’s 13 for the game. Our defensive shape and pressure on the ball was excellent.
The opposition
UQ are always hard to beat at home. The play a contested brand of footy and have some key senior players that we will have to take care of.
The challenge

It is always a challenge to win away from home. Their running midfield has caused us a fair bit of angst in the past, so we need to try and control their runners through the middle of the ground.
Shuffling the magnets
We lose three of our best players, Jasmine Davidson, Ella Calleja and Leah Kaslar. Thankfully we will regain Maisy Evans following concussion. We also have access to GC Suns academy girls – Alia Stringer, Millie Ell and Milla Brosnan Ball.
Ones to watch
Our wingers Lexi Samuels and Chloe Smith. And Halle Geyer continues to grow and develop as a ruck/midfielder. Chloe Smith on a wing has given us plenty of dash.
The focus
To continue playing selfless footy, without focusing on the outcome. Our ball use has been a highlight, especially our kick/mark game. We want to continue to control the tempo of game.
The final word
We are approaching the halfway mark of the season and have set ourselves up really well with six wins and one loss. It is important to continue to strive for balance in our game. Winning away games and banking four points is critically important.
