It was a weekend of contrasting wins for the Bull Sharks.
In the QFA the boys had to grind out a hard-fought victory in heavy conditions at The Canal, while the QAFLW team delivered a polished four-quarter performance to dismantle Yeronga on their home deck.
Whether it was muddy resilience or clinical execution, both teams found a way to win — showing the depth, discipline and trademark Bull Sharks footy that has been a hallmark of season 2025 to date.
QFA
Bull Sharks v Tweed Coast at The Canal
Bull Sharks won 7.10 (52) - 5.8 (38)
How it was won
It was won at the very end of the game. We were pressed by a very determined opposition in appalling conditions. The ground was a mud heap which we feel helped the opposition and limited the way we would naturally play. There were no excuses, Tweed did take it up to us in a fierce contest and nearly pinched the game off us. We won the game by scoring when we desperately needed too, late in the game.
What made you happy
At stages it looked like Tweed were getting on top of us, but we always managed to find a way through and scored at opportune times. We were happy with the way the team battled through an ugly day and found a way to win it.
Bull Sharks Footy
Parts of the game we played the way we prepare for each week, but there were large periods where we drifted away from that game style. There is much to learn as always, and we also need to build that capacity to stick relentlessly to our processes.
The work to do
We desperately need to train on a dry oval. We haven’t trained properly for the best part of three weeks. It has become a huge challenge to get access to the ground given the rain we have had. We have so much work to do so we hope it dries up and we can get a good run at it. We need to get our systems in place and to get the team to have a full week’s training to get the touch and timing back.
Trademark players
Tommy Bennett and Taj Cadle were standouts in a doer game of footy. They ran and tackled and pressured the opposition into submission at times and were a big part of the team’s success on the day.

QAFLW
Bull Sharks v Yeronga at Yeronga
Bull Sharks won 16.18 (114) - 0.0 (0)
How it was won
All we talked about pre-game was the importance of playing the right way given Yeronga are an inexperienced team, and we expected to be comfortably in control of the game. Quarter by quarter we assessed our performance, we played with discipline, team care and a real determination to just play our role. That’s what we asked for and that's exactly what we got.
What made you happy
I’m happy with the selflessness, we shared the ball around and it didn't matter who kicked the goals. Also, the fact that we played four quarters of really disciplined footy. The week before against Aspley we played three quarters and then dropped right away in the final quarter, so this week the challenge was to play the right way for four quarters, and we did.
Bull Sharks Footy
We were really strong in the contest and our work rate to outnumber in space around uncontested ball, was elite. Once we got it inside forward 50, we jammed the opposition up and we just didn’t let them out. Our team defence was excellence.
The work to do
Our conversion. We went inside our attacking 50m 48 times and scored 16.18. Our goal kicking needs some work. We probably missed ten easy shots.
Trademark Players
Ella Calleja was best on ground. Shannon Nolan continues to have a stellar season. Jasmine Davidson on a wing and through the midfield dominated and Kendra Blattman kicked six goals straight. In defence Jemma Blair was impassable.
