Fab four muscle up for Maroons

Ella Calleja
Bull Shark sharp shooter Ella Calleja returns to the Maroons.

Bull Sharks will once again add bite to the Maroon’s ranks as Queensland chases a third consecutive victory in the State Match against Tasmania.

Bull Sharks Ella Calleja, Shannon Nolan, Skye White and Jasmyn Davidson have been named in the Queensland squad to take on the Devils in Latrobe on July 5th

Jasmyn Davidson and Ella Calleja are no strangers to the state competition after starring in 2024 when Queensland beat Tasmania 11.7 (83) - 4.1 (25) – a game in which Bull Sharks contributed 7 of the Maroons 11 goals.

“I’m really grateful to have the opportunity to represent my state again,” Calleja said.

“Last year was such a good experience and I enjoyed playing footy with a talented group of girls.”

Fresh face to the Maroons Shannon Nolan has forced the selector’s hands with a dominant start to the QAFLW season.

The reigning Bull Sharks club champion leads the competition in disposals will add midfielder power to the team, which is coached by Gold Coast Suns player, Jamie Stanton.

“In 2023 I struggled to even manage a senior's spot, so to be given the opportunities I have this year I couldn’t be more excited or grateful,” Nolan said.

â€śBeing selected in the state side is a huge accomplishment for all the Bond girls, the only way we get to play good footy is when we’re together.”

Director of AFL at Bond Andy Lovell, normally a proud Tasmanian, admits he will set his roots aside and cheer on his new state.

“I’m just thrilled and really excited for the four girls selected in the state QLD squad,” Lovell said.

“All of them have had a standout season, I think they will contribute strongly to QLD winning the game.”

The women will have to put their season rivalries aside as they team up with 27 other players from across the comp in the hopes of making the final selected team.
