Bond University Bachelor of Commerce student Elsa Sif Sandholt has clinched the final spot on the Queensland Firebirds roster for the 2026 Super Netball season.

The signing comes after the 20-year-old’s first taste of Super Netball late last year, when she debuted in the Firebirds’ final games against Sydney Swifts.

Prior to being offered the contract, Sif Sandholt impressed in the Firebird Futures squad, scoring 235 goals across eight matches in 2025.

The shooter was a part of the Australian 21 and under squad in 2025 alongside Bull Shark Sasha-May Flegler, which made a three-day tour to Tonga in late October.

Sif Sandholt said she was thrilled to be offered the eleventh player contract.

“I think it’s an incredible opportunity, I didn’t even realise that the contract would be on offer this year,” Sif Sandholt said.

“Being a training partner is challenging for all of us, so having the opportunity to be fulltime with the team is exciting, I don’t really have the words for it.

“It’s what every training partner is really pushing for and fighting for.”

Sif Sandholt said the four point loss on her debut against the Sydney Swifts has put a fire in her belly.

“It was a cool opportunity, but it was also heartbreaking losing to the Swifts by four points in overtime,” Sif Sandholt said.

“It means so much to be able to train with the team fulltime, I know it will really benefit my development.”

Originally from Iceland Sif Sandholt played for both the Bull Sharks Ruby and Sapphire series until she made to switch to Jets in 2022 when Bond didn’t enter aside in the Sapphire Series.

“As a Bond Bull Sharks junior, it’s always full circle coming back to Bond,” Sif Sandholt said.

“I got my first taste of the HART Sapphire Series, as a 16-year-old rookie playing for the Bond Bull Sharks."
