Celebration at The Canal for 150 games

It’s the first game back on their home deck for the Bull Shark men as they take on Coomera in what will be historic day for the club.

Bull Shark stalwarts, James Fitchett and Wyatt Bacon will both play their 150 games on Saturday, a record-breaking number for the Bull Sharks club.

The women head north to take on a tough Morningside opponent who will be looking to rebound after a tight loss to Wilston Grange last week.

Andy Lovell's side has been struck by a number of injuries to key players in the first few weeks of the season, but Lovell insists that if the replacements can stand up, their best will get the girls over the line.

Last round – Bond v Carrara – Bull Sharks won 12.5 (77) - 5.11 (41)

We played Carrara at their new home ground at Ormeau knowing we would be in for a contest, historically we have had trouble with this side.

We jumped out of the blocks well, although at times we got away from the way we want to consistently play. We lost a couple of troops through injury which did test our depth, although to a man the players stepped up and ran the game out very well.

Round Three

Bull Sharks v Coomera at The Canal

The opposition – Coomera is another unknown quantity as we meet them on our home deck for the first time this year. We have had some great success previously against them and will be looking to inflict the same deal of pain on them this weekend.

The challenge – We have been a bit scratchy to this point so the theme this week is to play disciplined team focused footy and start to get into the groove and the play the style we have been working on all summer. We aren’t far away from our best footy.

Shuffling the magnets – There will be a few changes this week with some players away given its university holidays and we've had a couple of injuries last weekend. There may be up to five changes this week.

Ones to watch – We should welcome back Tommy Bennett and Jack Tilly into the side who will be significant inclusions for us.

Bond University Bull Sharks AFL
Tommy Bennett will return this week.

The focus – The ground will be soddened given the rain we have been getting, so we will need to play disciplined team footy and get our noses over the footy. We love playing this game style, so we are expecting a strong performance.

Final word – It’s a massive day for the Club. We will unfurl the Premiership flag, honour two Bull shark favourite sons in Wyatt Bacon & James Fitchett who play their historical 150 Games for the Club. Two big wins, honour a couple of club greats, makes for a good day at the Canal!

Last round – Bond v Coorparoo – Bull Sharks lost 4.2 (26) - 1.4 (10)

It was a disappointing loss, but the effort was fantastic, Coorparoo just took their opportunities in front of goals and we didn't.

Round Four

Bull Sharks v Morningside at Morningside

The opposition – Morningside are grand finalists from last year who have won two and lost one against Wilston Grange. They're well organised, well coached and they’ve got talent across the three lines. They’ll present aa challenge

The challenge – The challenge is to convert our opportunities and score. We’ve lost three key players out of our forward five, now the replacements need to stand up and deliver.

Shuffling the magnets – We lose Halley Gaia for one week due to suspension. Potentially we can bring back Evy Reeves from injury, but we’ll still be without Tegan Williams, Millar Brosnan-Ball and Kierra Zerafa. Potentially Skye Emery returns from concussion.

Ones to watch – Beth Pinchin our new recruit across half back was outstanding last weekend in defence, she brings calm, and she's measured and experienced, and her ball use in excellent. Evy Reeves in the midfield. Jas Davidson has had an unbelievably good start to the season in the mid. I’m looking for Kendra Blattman to really rebound – she's the best tall forward in the competition and I don't think she's far of her best form.

The focus – To convert your inside 50 opportunities and to limit their key play makers. Get back to our strong balance of attack and defence.

Final word – We've been challenged significantly with the injury of key players, but this provides a wonderful opportunity for our younger, developing up and coming players. Our best is good enough; we need to believe!
