Bull Sharks surge forward after statement weekend

Bull Sharks

The Bull Sharks came away with four wins last weekend, highlighted by a determined performance from the women, who fought back against last year’s grand finalists, Morningside. They crawled back from a 16-point deficit at three quarter time to close the gap.

The men’s fixtures were full of celebration, securing two wins over Coomera while also marking significant milestones, with club stalwarts Wyatt Bacon and James Fitchett both reaching their 150th games.

This weekend, the men face arch rivals Burleigh at the Bombers’ home ground. Its bound to be a tussle, with Maxy Kennedy acknowledging Burleigh as one of the strongest sides in the competition.

Meanwhile, the women are back in the bus, on the road to Maroochydore. Despite their opponents recording just one win this season, they’ll be eager to claim another on home turf. Andy Lovell believes that if his side spread the performance evenly across the team and bring effort at contest, they’ll have the game covered.

Last round – Bond v Coomera – Bull Sharks won 15.16 (106) - 5.7 (37)

On a day of great celebration for the club with two players playing significant milestones and the raising of our premiership flag the team played their part in what was a fantastic win. It’s hard to find a player that didn’t contribute, it was our best performance and one that will fill the team and staff with great belief as we attack the season.

Round Four

Bull Sharks v Burleigh at Bill Godfrey Oval

The opposition - This weekend we take on a team that over the years have presented some significant highlights. It’s fair to say we see Burleigh as our biggest challenge this season. They are well coached, well drilled and super determined to knock us over on their home deck, this week will be a great challenge for our group.

The challenge - The biggest challenge in this competition is to take on Burleigh at their home ground. We understand what’s required and have complete confidence in what we bring and can’t wait to hit them head on.

Shuffling the magnets – There could be quite a few changes this week depending on availability. Those who have played in the senior team over the previous two weeks have been outstanding so one would think Coach Ford will have some deep discussions around selection and few headaches.

Matt Smith
Matty Smith

Ones to watch - Our young guns continue to impress, Will Baillieu, Jack Graham, Nick Bare along with seasoned campaigners in Matty Smith, Dan Middleton & Jack Tilley are all starting to find form and build.

The focus - We understand the assignment and will be well prepared and up for the fight. We go in confident with a respect for the opposition knowing our best will get us over the line.

Final word - Matty Smith plays his 100th game for the club this weekend. He’s been an outstanding player & advocate for our club. He’s hugely respected so to win this week would honour that milestone and significantly set our season up.

It was a remarkable win against last year’s grand finalists. We were 16 points down at three-quarter time so to climb back and take the win showed great belief and character.

Round Five

Bull Sharks v Maroochydore at Maroochydore

The opposition – Morningside have had a slow start to the season, under a new coach Steve Moody, their game has evolved, so they look to move the ball quickly and take advantage of their skill level.

The challenge – The challenge is to back up our effort from a great win against Morningside to be able to jump on a bus and travel to the Sunshine Coast and win a game that we should win.

Shuffling the magnets – Ella Furlong who made her debut last week is unavailable due to university commitments. Hally Gaia is back from a one week suspension. Nikki Sandaman has been called up to Suns Academy so she’s out. Skye Emery is likely to return from four weeks out with concussion.

Ones to watch – Skye White has been amazing in ruck replacing Maisy Evans who has been drafted with GWS. Evie Reeves returned from foot injury and was excellent last week. Shannon Nolan dominated in the wet and continues a strong season after her break out competition Best and Fairest win in season 2025.

The focus – Last week was an evenly spread performance over all 21 players, who just played their role. Our effort at the contest and ability to win uncontested ball through hard run was a highlight. We need to bring that again this week.

Final word – If we can consolidate, this week has the potential to really set up our season, we need to be methodical in our approach to this week’s game and take care of business.
