Bull Sharks prevail in season defining win

Miles Enders
Miles Enders has written himself into Bull Sharks lore with an after the siren goal to seal a memorable victory.

It was a dominant weekend for the Bull Sharks.

In one of the greatest wins in the club’s QFA history, Miles Enders kicked the goal after the final siren to seal a one point victory.

Matthew Kennedy says it was a performance that highlighted the team’s spirit and fight and their genuine love for playing for each other.

In the QAFLW against Wilston Grange, the Bull Sharks delivered a polished game of footy to make light of the slippery and wet conditions.

Bull Sharks v Burleigh at Burleigh Oval

 Bull Sharks won 5.7(37) - 5.6(36)

 How it was won

The conditions were about as bad as you could imagine. The Bull Sharks got to work, contest after contest, at times taking territory inch by inch. They matched the Bombers in the contest work and when the opportunity presented to score, they took it. To a man everyone stood up when they were required in an incredible team performance.

What made you happy

As coaches we loved the spirit and the fight the team showed. We hung in all day and were rewarded with a victory that defines our season and can be used as a reference point for our run into the finals later in the year.  What is most pleasing about this season is the connection the entire footy club has. They seem to love playing for each other which is what every team wants when the game is on the line as it was at the weekend.

 Bull Sharks Footy

The way we played and won on the weekend is the definition of Bull Sharks Footy.  Tough, united and team focused footy is what we were on the weekend and have been for most of the season.

 The work to do

We still have moments when we let the opposition off the hook. It must be said that this was rare on the weekend when we managed to limit any clean footy and their ability to score by our appetite for the contest. The work to do now is to maintain that level game by game.

 Trademark Players

Jack Avage relished the conditions and played his heart out, Miles Enders was unbelievable and kicked the sealer after the siren to win the game and young Jed Kowald played above his weight all day and led the way in the contested part of the game.

QAFLW

Bull Sharks v Wilston Grange at The Canal

Bull Sharks won 6.5 (41) – 4.6 (30)

How it was won

It was won by uncontested possession which we won by 100. Our ability to get the ball to the outside and run and carry in wet, sloppy conditions was elite.

What made you happy

Shannon Nolan
Shannon Nolan was again a standout.

It was our ability with to win stoppages, especially centre bounce clearances which gets the ball inside our forward 50. And then the way we held the ball in that dangerous area until we could score. It’s something we practiced all summer.

 Bull Sharks Footy

It was undoubtedly the way we shared responsibility and the ball. We are playing a really unselfish brand of footy.

The work to do

We’re still trying to get the machinations around our zone defence right. We tend to collapse back on defence rather than come forward with pressure so that's something we’re still working hard on to get right.

 Trademark Players

Ella Calleja, Shannon Nolan and Charlotte Taylor were all outstanding through the midfield. Kendra Blattman was a great target up forward and Skye White held our defence together. Evie Reeves continues to have her best season of senior footy.
