Bruised but not broken

Harriet Nicholson
Vice captain Harriet Nicholson was in top form against Cougars

The Bull Sharks tipped off their Ruby Season with a bruising encounter against the Cougars.

The result didn't go their way but coach Kim Boland was pleased to see some combinations already starting to click within the new look side.

Bull Sharks v Brisbane North Cougars at Nissan Arena

Bull Sharks lost 57-45

How it was lost

Despite leading for the first three quarters, we allowed the Cougars' physicality to take over in the last quarter which led to a disappointing finish.

What made you happy

There were some excellent moments of play throughout the match. Our defensive duo of Harriet Nicholson and Laura Kelly, playing together for the first time, showed promising chemistry and worked well under pressure. It will be exciting to see how this new combination will develop over the course of the season.

Bull Sharks Netball

We’re proud to have stayed true to our values and played a clean, disciplined game. That said, there were moments when we may have been too clean, allowing our opponents to dictate the physicality.

The work to do

We need to be more consistent in maintaining possession and develop a stronger response to intense physical pressure, particularly in crucial final moments of the game.

Trademark Players

Mahlia Henare made an impressive debut for the Bull Sharks, combining exceptionally well with Ocean Karekare. The pair formed a dynamic and lethal combination in the midcourt, bringing speed and intensity to gain valuable ball around the circle edge. Harriet Nicholson now in her 11th season delivered a standout performance as well despite a considerable height disadvantage against the Cougars’ tall shooter. She showcased skill, composure, and determination to come up with crucial intercepts.
