A trio of Bondies will make history when they pull on the green and gold on the Australian under 23s netball tour to Tonga.
Bull Sharks Sapphire Series premiership players Sasha-May Flegler and Jayden Molo have both been named in the national pathways squad, while Bond student Elsa Sif Sandholt was also selected in the touring group for the international series.
The three-day series, to be held in Nuku’alofa from 31 October to 3 November, marks the first time Tonga’s national team the Tonga Tala will play on home soil. It also coincides with celebrations for the 150th anniversary of the nation’s Constitution.
The Australian squad will take on the world No.9 Tala as part of Netball Australia’s ongoing commitment to developing emerging talent and strengthening ties with the Pacific.
Bond University’s Sapphire Series premiership winning coach Rebecca Stower said the selection of two Bull Sharks in the Australian team was richly deserved recognition for their hard work and consistency throughout the Sapphire Series.

“Sasha-May has that rare combination of leadership and composure that lifts everyone around her,” Stower said.
“Jayden’s power and presence through the middle of the court are unmatched - she’s fearless and thrives on these big moments.”
Stower said the opportunity to represent Australia on an international tour would be invaluable for both players.
“It’s a fantastic chance for them to test themselves against a passionate and physical Tongan side, and to experience a different style of netball and culture,” she said.
“They’ll both come back even better players and even better leaders for Bond.”
The squad will also take part in community visits and cultural exchanges during the tour, adding another dimension to what promises to be an unforgettable international experience.
