Bold wins and important learnings against Souths

Our premier men took the win against Souths on their home turf and although the final score was close, coach Mick Heenan said the men were the dominant side of the day up until the final few minutes where Souths scored some sneaky tries.

Our premier women blitzed Souths’ women leaving them pointless in a 76-point victory showdown.

Colts 1 had a tight match which ultimately concluded in a draw.

Premier Men

Bull Sharks won 34 - 33

How it was won

We played some good footy and defended well on our own try line. We probably didn't take all our opportunities in the first half but we were fairly dominant and went into half time 14 - 5. In the second half we scored some good tries and ended 34 -19 up with about five minutes to go, and Souths scored two late tries to make it close.

What you’re happy with

Our defence, I thought our decision making until probably the last three or four minutes was pretty good. Our decision makers controlled the game pretty well for us.

I thought our conversion rate was low, we had a lot of opportunities, and I don’t think we have converted as well as we have in previous weeks. Just being more clinical when we get into the attacking.

Luke Depiazzi did well, I think it was probably his best game in terms of how he controlled the game.

Bull Sharks drew 33-33

How it unfolded

It was always going to be a fairly tough game. Souths have been going pretty well over the past five games. We had three or four guys who were out so we had a couple of positional changes, but it did give some guys the opportunity to step in which was good.

We played well enough to win the game and scored some great tries but we just let Souths get back into the game. You can tend to have concentration lapses in an away game.

Colts 1 v Souths

What are you happy with

We've been really good at scoring a lot of points, and a lot of our tries are team generated tries which is pleasing. So that's a really cool thing, that we know we've got a big set piece, and we can score tries from anywhere and we've been consistently doing that.

Work to do

We’ve got a real big defensive focus. We conceded to 33 points on the weekend, some of our one-on-one tackling wasn’t great.  I think it was just more of a mental thing because we've shown, that we can defend really well and as an individuals.

The main one was Fergus Gillian, he was strong again and is always pretty dangerous.

Premier Women

Bull Sharks won 76 – 0

How it was won

It was won through defence, I think it was really good. Just going back to fundamentals and making sure all our structures worked, which they did.

What you’re happy with

Defence and the attack shape and Lucy Dinnen at 10 with limited time to train and she did really well, especially with coming from a backline 7 to a 10.

Work to do

We’ve just got to try and maintain consistency, we have a tendency to do something really well and then we seem to self-sabotage by dropping the ball off kick off and that puts us on the backfoot.

Lucy Dinnen played really well as the 10.
