Chinese Language and Culture is designed for students with no previous knowledge of Mandarin Chinese. Mandarin Chinese is the most commonly spoken language in the world and one of the official languages of the United Nations. It is also one of the world’s international languages of business and trade. Studying Chinese language, culture and society will expand your cultural and intercultural awareness and your ability to communicate effectively across cultural borders. It will also broaden your global career opportunities. Through content and language integrated approach, focusing on aspects of Chinese culture, the subject also aims to develop basic communicative proficiency in Mandarin Chinese.

1. Identify, analyse, evaluate and communicate introductory knowledge of the Chinese language and broad theoretical knowledge about the Chinese Language and Culture. 2. Independently and in teams, generate and transmit solutions to unpredictable and sometimes complex problems related to the Chinese Language and Culture. 3. Apply the knowledge and understanding of the Chinese Language and Culture to professional work and/or further learning, demonstrating well-developed judgement and responsibility.
