SSD Urban Design and Planning Studio project for the Australian International School, Bali

During first semester of 2010 a group of five Urban Design and Planning Students, led by Assoc Prof Daniel O’Hare, have been engaged to develop a Sustainable Design Framework for a new campus for the Australian International School in Bali.

Ms Penny Robertson OAM, Chairman of Yayasan Sekolah International Australia, visited on 12 February to brief the student team prior to their fieldwork in Bali.

The students will use Urban Design methods to develop the Sustainable Design Framework incorporating energy efficiency, water harvesting, waste minimisation within a culturally responsive approach to design. A particular challenge will be to incorporate facilities for the local community while maintaining the level of security that is now required for such a school.

The five students, selected by a competitive process, include Hayley Gardner and Isara Kanjanasthiti (both from the Bachelor of Urban Design and Planning), and Greg Betts, Jonathan Leishman and Cameron Thiessen from the Master of Urban Planning.
