New academic brings international perspective on finance

The Bond Business School is pleased to welcome Dr Colette Southam as Assistant Professor of Finance. Dr Southam has joined the Faculty from the Richard Ivey School of Business in Ontario, Canada.

Dr Southam’s primary teaching area is in international finance and she will be sharing her passion with both undergraduate and postgraduate students here at Bond.

“I’m excited to be teaching at Bond and look forward to the intimate class sizes and varied international backgrounds of the students,” said Dr Southam.

“I have taught many different courses in the past, but international finance is my passion. It is such a broad topic so my goal is to expose students to all of the key elements and provide them with the tools to understand how firms can take advantage of the opportunities in the global financial markets, while managing the associated risks.”

Dr Southam is a strong advocate of case study teaching method and will be integrating practical case studies from around the world into her classes.

“Learning using real life business scenarios is relevant and practical, but it also makes learning and teaching more exciting and fun,” said Dr Southam.

Dr Southam has a BSc in molecular biology and genetics (Guelph), an MBA (N. Arizona) and a PhD (Ivey), and has been published in a variety of leading financial journals.
