Justice Ian Binnie visits Bond University

On November 25-26, Bond University was privileged to host The Honourable Mr Justice Ian Binnie from the Supreme Court of Canada. Justice Binnie was the principal guest speaker at the Ninth Owen Dixon Society Dinner on Friday, 26 November and kindly agreed to spend the afternoon in an open session with Bond law students on Thursday. Justice Binnie shared his insights on the role of judiciary and Canadian legal issues and students were keen to ask questions of one of Canada’s leading jurists.

The interwoven themes of both Justice Binnie’s Owen Dixon Society Dinner speech and his open session talk were his encouragement to pursue both one’s goals and dreams and to succeed in one’s legal career without sacrificing work-life balance. The presentations were well received and inspirational to all those who attended.

“I cannot stress enough how inspiring Justice Binnie was!" says Kristen Roehrig, Secretary, Bond University Law Students' Association. "I walked away from the Owen Dixon Society Dinner inspired and ready to divide and conquer the legal world."

“The law students at Bond University are extremely grateful to Justice Binnie for taking the time to answer their questions and talk with them, and for generously presenting the Canadian Law Students’ Association with a book on the Supreme Court of Canada Justices” says Alexandra MacCarthy, President, Canadian Law Students' Association.
