Economic conference a success

Bond University’s Globalisation and Development Centre partnered with Nanyang Technological University’s Economic Growth Centre to host a successful workshop on Economic and Policy Developments in East Asia.

The two-day event was held on October 13 and 14 and brought together over 25 academics from around the world to discuss the current research on a variety of topics related to the workshop theme.

Twelve papers were presented from leading academics from Australia, Japan, New Zealand and Singapore. A variety of topics were discussed which were based around three key themes: macroeconomics and trade, labour and social issues, and taxes and government spending.

Keynote addresses were given by Professor Norman Gemmell, the Chief Economist at the New Zealand Treasury and Professor Charles Horioka from Osaka University’s Institute of Social and Economic Research and provided a chance for attendees to further develop an international understanding of the economic and policy development.

This is the first collaborative workshop of this nature and it will become an annual event, with next year’s event to be held in Singapore.
