Celebrating a coaching icon

Glenn
Glenn Corcoran, whose lifelong dedication to coaching and athlete development is being recognised.

Bond University Vice Chancellor and President Professor Tim Brailsford has announced the university’s annual award for its top sports coach will be named in honour of Glenn Corcoran, who runs the High-Performance Training Centre at the Bond Institute of Health and Sport.

The inaugural Glenn Corcoran Coach of the Year Award will be presented at the 2025 Bond Sports Awards later this year.

Professor Brailsford said: "Glenn Corcoran is a coaching icon at Bond University.

"He has made an enduring and profound impact on the university’s sporting culture.

“Over many years he has assisted and guided many athletes along their journey of improvement and achievement.

“While his expertise is strength and conditioning, Glenn always adds an extra dollop to his training and advice.

“Whether it be suggestions about diet, a dose of wisdom about recovery or injury prevention, or some sage words that forever echo, Glenn has offered so much more to the personal growth of his athletes through his tutelage.

“Moreover, Glenn’s national and international connections have brought teams and coaches from all around the globe to his home at the High-Performance Training Centre.

“He has always sought to integrate and connect these international networks with Bond coaches and athletes.”

Professor Brailsford said a sports coach is ultimately an educator, “someone who teaches, guides and improves”.

“A good coach is a mentor and a trusted confidant who is always there. An excellent coach encourages and inspires others to achieve beyond what they thought was possible.

“An outstanding coach is someone who never thinks of themselves but always has the best interests of their students and athletes front of mind.

“It is fitting that Bond University’s annual coach award is to be named in honour of an individual who is the epitome of an outstanding coach, mentor and role model.”

Mr Corcoran said he was “humbled and honoured” by the recognition.

“I am overwhelmed with gratitude,” Mr Corcoran said.

“I am proud to be part of such an incredible team, and I am grateful for the opportunity to contribute to the university’s sports program.

“I would like to extend my sincerest thanks for this incredible honour.”
