Bondy Mat Belcher sails into the history books

Bondy Mat Belcher made history yesterday by winning his fourth world 470 crown (sailing) in the waters off La Rochelle, France, a year to the day after he won Gold at the London Olympics.

It was the ninth consecutive regatta win by Mat and his new crewmate of less than a year, Will Ryan. They are the first Australians to win an Olympic class world title this year as they campaign towards the Rio Olympics in 2016.

Mat completed a Bachelor of Commerce at Bond in 2009 and commenced his Master of Urban Development and Sustainability immediately following  the 2012 Olympics.

Mat, who is a member of the Bond Elite Sport Program (BESP) is another example of an elite athlete who is able to achieve both academically and on the world sporting stage whilst studying here at Bond.
