Medical students from Bond University may soon have the chance to take their studies all the way to Rome.
Bond has signed a memorandum of understanding with Universita Cattolica del Sacro Cuore, which has four campuses, including in the Italian capital and Milan.
The Rome campus is home to the university’s internationally-acclaimed School of Medicine and Surgery, which is affiliated with the Policlinico Gemelli University Hospital.
Professor Raffaele Landolfi, Dean of Medicine, and Edilio Mazzoleni, Director of Global Engagement, endorsed a memorandum of understanding on behalf of Universita Cattolica del Sacro Cuore.
Professor Landolfi was hopeful the student exchange could start as soon as next year.
“We are thinking about having clinical students hosting Bond students for a clinical rotation of about one month’s duration, and this would be done for medicine, surgery, or other medical specialties.
“In the future, the collaboration may extend to having one year or two-year experiences in Rome.
“We’ll start with the Bond students coming to Rome, but hopefully in the future we’ll have Roma students coming to Bond. The way of teaching (at Bond) is a little bit different, we have a lot to learn from the basic biological studies, while we can offer something more about clinical studies because we have a teaching hospital, it’s an incredible opportunity for our students.”
Bond University Vice Chancellor and President Professor Tim Brailsford said the agreement with Universita Cattolica del Sacro Cuore marked another step forward for Bond.
“We have always been a university that has seen things through global eyes, and to have a connection with a very well-established, highly reputable institution in Italy which has a very strong focus on medicine and health, is another gateway to the world for our students,” he said.
