Bond University Professors, Dr Amy Kenworthy and Dr George Hrivnak, have been included in a cohort of leading academics and thinkers from the world’s most respected business schools to contribute to a ground-breaking new book on management education.
Described as “essential reading for those involved in the leadership of business schools”, Disrupt or Be Disrupted: A Blueprint for Change in Management Education was commission by the US-based Graduate Management Admission Council, owners and administrators of the GMAT exam that is used by more than 5,800 graduate and business management programs worldwide.
Their aim for the book was to gather input and insights from leading management educators on the challenges faced by business schools today.
With chapters contributed by academics from the likes of Harvard Business School, London Business School, INSEAD, Boston College, ESADE and more, the book highlights specific ways to renovate current models and practices such as curriculum content, student engagement, faculty development school ranking methods and effective measurement.
For their chapter, Bond’s School of Business professors Amy Kenworthy and George Hrivnak teamed with Kenneth G. Brown from the University of Iowa and J. Ben Arbaugh from the University of Wisconsin to analyse what research tells us about how teaching must change.
In addition to looking at various delivery methods such as online instruction and experiential learning, their chapter – Overlooked and Unappreciated – emphasises the role of schools in staffing, training, motivating and rewarding instructors and the necessity to give concentrated attention to course design.
Both Dr Kenworthy and Dr Hrivnak are widely recognised for their contribution to management education through their respective research, peer-reviewed journal articles, books, book chapters and international conference papers.
As Founding Director of the Centre for Applied Research in Learning, Engagement, Andragogy and Pedagogy (LEAP) at Bond and a world-renowned expert in service learning, Dr Kenworthy has previously been honoured with an Australian Learning and Teaching Council (ALTC) Award for Teaching and Excellence and three ALTC Citations for Contributions to Student Learning; while Dr Hrivnak recently received the 2013 New Educator Award from the OBTS Society for Management Educators.
