Bond to take on UQ in rugby Grand Final this weekend

This Saturday August 16, Bond’s Colts 1 rugby team will go head-to-head with arch rivals, UQ in the Grand Final at Ballymore.

Tim Rowlands, General Manager of Bond University Rugby Club (BURC) said the two teams were both strong and very evenly matched, promising an exciting and fast-paced final.

“We beat UQ by five points in the major semi-finals, and in our previous match drew 17 all – so there’s not much between the two teams; it could come down to the bounce of a ball or a referee’s call,” Tim said.

“Having said that, we’re coming off the back of a bye last weekend, which means our boys will be playing at full strength.

“The week off has given us the chance to refresh and hit the gym and the physio to iron out a few minor injuries, so the Colts 1 team is ready and raring to go.

“They have the opportunity to be Bond University Rugby Club’s first team to win a Premiership, and are determined to make the most of it.”

The Colts 1 team had a relatively slow start to the season, but have finished strongly and fully deserve their hard-fought place in the final.

“Both teams like a good, open game and they love to score tries, so this final promises to be a great match for fans and spectators to enjoy,” Tim said.

“I would encourage students, staff and supporters to come along and support this fine group of young men who have done the Club proud.”
