Bond Doctors to Celebrate in Style

The second cohort of Bachelor of Medicine Bachelor of Surgery students will graduate on Wednesday December 8, 2010. After recently completing their final exams, seventy seven students are expected to graduate, becoming Australia’s newest Doctors.

The students commenced their fast-tracked 4-year and 8 month degree in 2006 and will be the second cohort to graduate from the Bond University Medicine program. All of the graduates will next year do their internships in hospitals for before becoming residents.

“Although the workload is intense and there is a high expectation of them (medicine students) during their studies here at Bond, all have been successfully placed into supervised placements in medical facilities around Australia” said Tabitha Lauret, Marketing and Events Officer for the Faculty of Health Sciences and Medicine.

The university’s inaugural Medicine graduation ceremony (and gala dinner) last year was held at the Gold Coast Convention Centre in Broadbeach with the first cohort of fifty six Medicine graduates formally receiving their titles in the company of family, friends and dignitaries to much media fanfare.

“The graduation ceremony and subsequent gala dinner was a way to celebrate the successful completion our first cohort of students from the Bachelor of Medicine Bachelor of Surgery program.

The highly successful event was also an opportunity to recognise and thank the many industry and clinical partners who were instrumental in the delivery of this course” said Tabitha.

This year’s event is being organised by the students themselves and promises to be just as grand an event as the first.

As per the tradition of fellow Medical Schools, the graduating class of 2010 has coordinated their own gala dinner.

“The evening will be an intimate gathering of friends, family and colleagues to again celebrate the tremendous achievements of the second graduating cohort.” said Tabitha.
