Bond Bull Sharks aim for a come-back at round two of Aon Uni 7s series

Bull Sharks coach Setu Naseri says his side have to get the basics right for round two of the Aon Uni 7s series, after coming ninth in the first instalment at the University of Queensland.

Two weeks ago Bond finished winless at UQ after five pool rounds which meant they played the University of Western Australia in the finals - a match they won handsomely to avoid the dreaded wooden spoon.

Coach Naseri believes Bond's fortunes can shift today if they stop gifting the opposition with a mountain of opportunities.

"We were the architects of our demise, teams weren't stringing together amazing plays," Neseri said.

"We were getting beaten by simple one-on-one missed tackles, stuff that the girls make every day of the week.

"Those things happened, and we've got to accept responsibility for them."

Queensland Super W utility back and Bull Sharks captain Emily Bass, was part of last year's campaign and she is keen for the team to avoid a ninth-place finish again.

She said the loss of experienced campaigners Lauren Brown, who has been selected for the national side as they compete in Colorado, and Wallaroo Cobie-Jane Morgan, has given the squad rookies a chance to prove themselves.

"Our younger and least experienced players have a chance to step up this weekend," she said.

"It's a big thing that Setu has done by giving them a chance, and we will see if they can take the reins from Lauren and Cobie-Jane."

Cross-town rivals Griffith University beat Bond 22-5 on their way to a gallant fourth in the first tournament.

One of Griffith's stars is Ivania Wong, a teammate of Emily's in the Queensland Super W team, and with the tournament at Bond coming so soon after round one, she's keen to capitalise.

"Our culture and the vibes between the players are great," said Ivania. 

"We want to build on from the last tournament, and we know we can do better than what we did at UQ."

Round two of the Aon Uni 7s series kicks off at 9 am, Bond University rugby oval, Robina.
