Although the country’s vaccine rollout is not progressing entirely as planned, thousands of Australians continue to receive their COVID vaccines every week. As a general practitioner administering the AstraZeneca vaccine, I find it strange that my patients all know about the very rare potential complications — such as blood clots — yet often don’t know what side effects they can realistically expect.

Sounds like virtual reality can design better classrooms

Virtual reality can be used to test the acoustics of classrooms that are still on the drawing board, helping students to learn without distractions. A new study by a team at Bond University used VR headsets to create virtual classrooms, then compared students’ cognitive performance in three scenarios: no ambient noise, typical classroom ambient noise, and ambient noise with acoustic treatments.

Olympian's battle with life after sport inspires her to help others

After failing to qualify at the Australian Olympic trials in 2008, former Olympian and two-time Commonwealth Games gold medallist Joanna Fargus knew her time in the pool had come to a cold, shallow end. At just 26-years-old, the 200-metre backstroke swimmer made the immediate decision to retire – leaving both her career and social network behind her.
