Meet your course instructor

Dr Mei Pheng Lee, PhD (Law) (Liverpool), F.Fin, ICDM(M), FCB(Assoc) - Practice Professor, Faculty of Law, Bond University

Dr Lee is presently a senior partner, banking law consultant and practitioner at Detta Samen & Co Advocates, one of the most established law firms in Sarawak, Malaysia. She is an Advocate and Solicitor of the High Court in Malaya and an Advocate of the High Court in Sabah and Sarawak. She had served at OCBC Bank in Malaysia as Head of their Legal department and Assistant Vice President, Kuching Branch in Sarawak for ten years. Since 1994, she has been a leading consultant and lecturer for banks and financial institutions, regulators, large corporations locally and internationally in many areas of banking and finance laws, Islamic banking, fraud, anti-money laundering and anti-terrorism financing, banking operations, credit, off shore banking, regulations and compliance.

Course 1: International Anti-Money Laundering / Counter-Financing of Terrorism: Compliance and Practice

This course provides a detailed examination of international AML/CFT law and practice with a focus on compliance issues, principles, processes, and global standards as well as best practices for combating money laundering and the financing of terrorism. The course is made up of five modules:

  • Meeting global standards and requirements
  • Corporate governance and ethics
  • Compliance, risk management and audit
  • Compliance monitoring programs and communication 
  • Best practices on internal control and structures

Course 2: International Anti-Money Laundering / Counter-Financing of Terrorism: Management and Implementation

This course provides a detailed examination of international AML/CFT law and practice with a focus upon the management and implementation of AML/CFT principles and processes, especially those governing the compliance function and compliance officers, and best practices for meeting an organisation's legal and regulatory obligations and requirements. The course is made up of five modules:

  1. International cases of AML/CFT non-compliance
  2. Critical Analysis of international cases of AML/CFT non-compliance and recent global developments
  3. Developing a world-class compliance function
  4. Key attributes of the global compliance officer
  5. Meeting the expectations and requirements of regulators
