This subject will provide students with the basic academic skills required to undertake tertiary study. Students will be introduced to the areas of research, essay writing, report writing and referencing, and will workshop and develop these skills through a series of focused activities. Further, students will develop a portfolio connecting their academic skills development to the development of transferrable skills for ongoing university study and beyond to the workplace.

Locate information for university assessments using online research databases, and engage in source evaluation to identify credible and useful sources. 3. Structure and outline academic works including essays and reports. 4. Apply referencing conventions in academic writing, and understand its importance for maintaining academic integrity. 5. Demonstrate transferrable skills relevant to university study and the workplace. 6. Evaluate personal progress and performance through self reflection.
This subject is not available as a general elective. To be eligible for enrolment, the subject must be specified in the students’ program structure.
