Big day delayed but not denied

Daisy Vanstone (Master of Psychology) and Serena Vanstone (Bachelor of Business) after Daisy’s graduation.

It was Daisy Vanstone’s big day but the Master of Psychology graduate happily shared her gown and mortarboard with her sister after the pandemic denied Serena an in-person graduation last year.

The pair swapped graduation regalia to pose for photos under the Arch as Serena, a Bachelor of Business graduate, finally got to drink in the atmosphere of a Bond University graduation day.

“Serena was supposed to attend her graduation ceremony in 2020 but it got cancelled because of Covid,” Daisy said.

“It’s nice to have everyone back together and be able to pose for a few photos.

“She followed in Dad’s footsteps and did business whereas I followed my own path, went a bit rogue and did psychology.

“My dad used to work here at Bond and I’ve been around this campus since I was 10 years old.”

The pair’s father is Professor Bruce Vanstone who taught at Bond University for 20 years before recently moving to the UK to become Head of School at Bangor Business School.

“Dad worked in actuarial science at the Bond Business School,” Daisy said.

“We always came here on school holidays so there is a pretty special family connection. My Dad did his PhD here as well.

“It’s a bit of a tradition and great to graduate.”

Ms Vanstone is already making a difference in the community, working in Brisbane as a psychologist with children who have learning disabilities.
