A collaborative event between Bond Sport Network and Gold Coast Active and Healthy Lifestyle Team

This 2.5-hour research informed community session, focused on empowering young female athletes to have successful futures in sport, incorporates a combination of research and translation to practice presentations. There will be some simple practical elements included (so wear flat shoes and comfortable clothing). There will be an opportunity to network at the end of the presentations over light breakfast options. 

  • 6:30am: Registration
  • 6:45am: Introductions: Dr Nikki Milne (Assistant Dean – Research (HSM)) / Samantha Hughes (Active and Healthy Team Lead) (5 mins)
  • 6:50am: Dr Jane Hunt (Sports Historian) – Drafting research agendas with female athletes. (15 mins)
  • 7:05am: Laura Ernst (PhD Candidate, Physiotherapist) - Knowledge and attitudes of female Australian Rules footballers about concussion. (15 mins)
  • 7:20am: Dr Tiana Ernst (Medical Practitioner - Gynaecologist / Reproductive Health) – Athlete menstrual management: the benefits of knowing your menstrual cycle. (15 mins)
  • 7:35am: Sarah Kiely (Titled Sports and Exercise Physiotherapist) - Managing the Load: Bone Stress Injuries and the Adolescent Female Athlete. (15 mins)
  • 7:55am: Megan Hunter (Physiotherapist) - Prep to Play: preventing serious knee and head injuries in community sport (30 mins)
  • 8:25am: Discussion Panel – Open Forum
  • 8:45am - 9:15am: Breakfast / Networking

This event is open to female athletes across the age spectrum and their parents, coaches, club administrators, and PE teachers.
