Japanese in Business and Media is designed for students who have completed Japanese Language and Culture or equivalent subjects. The aims of this subject are to further develop students' awareness and understanding of Japanese society and culture, focusing on the topics related to business and the media. Using a content and language integrated approach, the subject introduces students to more complex communicative structures and develops communicative competence in the Japanese language.

1. Recognise, evaluate and compare cultural differences on issues discussed in the media and related to conducting businesses in the Japanese-speaking world and other cultures.
2. Communicate in simple and routine tasks requiring a simple and direct exchange of information about matters related to work, study, and personal interests.
3. Apply knowledge and skills to further their knowledge of the Japanese language and culture.
4. Work collaboratively with your peers to improve their use of the Japanese language.
Assumed knowledge is the minimum level of knowledge of a subject area that students are assumed to have acquired through previous study. It is the responsibility of students to ensure they meet the assumed knowledge expectations of the subject. Students who do not possess this prior knowledge are strongly recommended against enrolling and do so at their own risk. No concessions will be made for students’ lack of prior knowledge.
