Description
This is a compulsory subject in the Graduate Diploma in Legal Practice program. This subject begins with an Introduction to Skills for Practice Workshop followed by four skill and compulsory practice area modules.
The compulsory practice areas covered in this subject include commercial and corporate practice, financial and ethical responsibilities, civil litigation practice, and property law practice. Key skills and values introduced in this subject include: lawyer's skills, problem solving, work management and business skills, trust and office accounting skills, and ethics and professional responsibility. These skills and values will be further developed during the professional legal experience subject.

Learning outcomes
- Apply core entry-level lawyer skills to progress simulated client matters, including client communication, legal problem solving, negotiation or early dispute resolution, and professional written work.
- Apply ethical, professional, costs and trust accounting obligations in simulated legal practice scenarios involving conflicts, client money, costs disclosure, billing, pro bono responsibilities and disciplinary issues.
- Produce competent entry-level property law advice and documents for residential conveyancing, leases, mortgages, land use and associated revenue matters.
- Produce competent entry-level commercial and corporate advice and documents for business structures, business sale and purchase, due diligence, finance and security, settlement and associated revenue matters.
- Produce competent entry-level civil litigation advice and documents for merits and costs advice, commencing and responding to proceedings, interlocutory applications, evidence, dispute resolution, settlement and enforcement.
- Manage simulated legal matters professionally through file organisation, time and risk management, client-focused communication, and records of drafting and research.
